Misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Identification and Prevention Policy
Civil Ceremonies has a very strict policy on plagiarism, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is not acceptable in any circumstances. Work must be the learners’ own and suspected instances will be fully investigated in line with this policy and can lead to the Awarding Body (NOCN) either not awarding or retracting a qualification.
Plagiarism means knowingly presenting the work or property of another person as if it were one’s own without appropriate acknowledgement or referencing. It includes:
- Word for word copying of sentences or paragraphs from one or more sources which are the work of other people.
- Closely paraphrasing sentences, paragraphs, or themes.
- Using another person’s ideas, work, or research data without due acknowledgment.
- Submitting work which has been produced by someone else on the learner’s behalf as if it were the work of the learner.
- Submitting one’s own previously assessed or published work for assessment or publication elsewhere, without appropriate acknowledgement.
- Rephrasing ideas from books, journals, study notes, the internet, the work of other learners, or any other source without acknowledging the source of those ideas.
We provide high quality training and materials, and assessment of work is made through a variety of different methods. On residential courses, learners work in a classroom situation to reduce the risk of plagiarism.
Civil Ceremonies uses appropriate software to assess written work for the use of AI and plagiarism. Where it is identified that AI or other plagiarism has been used by a learner as part of an assessment submission, the learner’s work will not be submitted to NOCN, the Awarding body, for the qualification to be awarded. If the matter is identified after the qualification has been awarded, then it may be withdrawn because of investigations that prove plagiarism was evident.
For minor plagiarism – the learner would be expected to resubmit a reworked version of their assignment and will (where work meets standard) be awarded the minimum pass mark for the qualification.
For major plagiarism – the incident will be reported to NOCN, who will launch a further investigation and any awarded qualification may be retracted.
Copying from another person in any form also constitutes plagiarism and this is not permitted. If the learner’s work is deemed to contain elements of copying, it will be investigated under this policy. The Managing Director will advise the learner of the proposed investigation and the investigation will then be carried out by a suitably qualified member of staff. The Managing Director will decide on an appropriate course of action investigation and the outcome and action that will be taken, with be within two weeks.
All suspected or alleged cases of cheating or plagiarism will be reported straight away to the relevant.
Managing Director, who will report the situation to the relevant awarding organisation where appropriate.
