What is a Civil Partnership Ceremony?
This is a Ceremony to enrich the formal proceedings of Civil Partnership Registration; as mentioned previously,
the ceremony is not a provision of the Act and therefore not provided as standard.
The Civil Partnership Ceremony is unique just as each couple is unique.
Our Civil Partnership ceremony offers many options, allowing you to create
a memorable and personal ceremony for you to share with family and friends
or if you prefer, to celebrate in private.
How is a Ceremony created?
Working alongside the Celebrant, couples select from a
wide range of options within the Ceremony framework, selecting words, poems and
readings that hold a special meaning to the couple.
The venue, number of guests and involvement of other guests are also chosen by the couple,
creating in all, a very meaningful and personal experience.
How do we arrange a Ceremony
Simply contact us and we will send you a pack containing your ceremony choices and allocate your Celebrant to you.
A meeting will be set for you and the Celebrant to meet and discuss
your requirements. The pack you receive contains the Ceremony framework and choices that will
enable you to plan the Ceremony in detail, the Celebrant is there to offer advice
and guidance to help you also.
It is often a good idea to hold the meeting at the venue you have chosen; if you have not selected a venue at that
stage, you and the Celebrant can arrange a mutually suitable location.

Where can a Ceremony be held?
The ceremonies we conduct can be held at a venue of your choice.
You may already have a special venue in mind, a club, restaurant, pub, hotel or a community venue,
you can also hold your ceremony at home if you prefer.
Can we hold a ceremony at home?
The answer to this is yes, but there are certain conditions that apply.
Take a look at our 'Guidelines for Ceremonies at Home' policy, this will give you an
idea of the sort of things we will check and you need to consider. There is an additional charge for this service.
How much does a Ceremony cost?
In areas where our Celebrants officiate at ceremonies, the fee is £168 – £198 (inc. vat).
If you hold your ceremony at home, there is an additional fee of £30 (inc. vat) as your Celebrant is
required to visit you at home beforehand to comply with Heath and Safety requirements.

Is the Civil Partnership Ceremony part of the official Civil Partnership registration?
No, the Civil Partnership Act makes no provision for a ceremony to be provided to accompany the
official procedure which is carried out at the Register Office.
Some Register Offices will offer the service and some may refer you to us here at
Civil Ceremonies for the ceremony. If you are not happy with your options, please talk to us.
Who conducts the Ceremony?
The Ceremony is conducted by a Celebrant who will meet with the couple
prior to the actual occasion to offer advice and discuss requirements.
Please be assured that the Celebrant will treat any details relating
to the ceremony with the strictest confidence.
In some areas the Registrar will conduct the ceremony following the official procedure
(this is where the Register Office is offering the Civil Partnership Ceremony), the Registrar will meet
with the couple and conduct the ceremony along with the legal signing if the couple
want to have both at the same time.
In other areas, the Registrar will preside over the official procedure and our own Celebrant will conduct the ceremony.
’Script Only’ Service
OR: you can have the legal formalities conducted by a Registrar and have someone you know conduct your Civil Partnership
ceremony later to your own preferences i.e. venue, time, day etc. In this instance you can purchase our ’Script Only’ ceremony.

We have questions about the legal aspects of Civil Partnership Registration, who can help us?
The act of signing the Civil Partnership Register forms the legal aspect of the union and all questions about the legal
aspects of Civil Partnership should be addressed to the Civil Partnership Registrar at your Register Office.
What is the difference between a Civil Partnership Ceremony and a Commitment Ceremony?
The Civil Partnership Ceremony can be arranged following the Civil Partnership
formalities which allows same–sex couples to have their relationship recognised officially in a
similar way to a civil marriage. The ceremony is not a standard provision of the Act and couples can arrange to have
a ceremony through us directly.
Further details of the legal obligations can be viewed on the
Stonewall website.
The Commitment Ceremony is a meaningful and dignified ceremony
for adult couples. The purpose of the Ceremony is to make a public
declaration of life-long commitment, love and dedication between two people without legal obligation.
