Professor Rebecca Probert

‘Current issues in Marriage Law - an insight into the legal position’
Specialist Advisor to the Law Commission’s review ‘‘Getting Married. A Scoping Paper’

The most recent review of marriage law in this country ‘Getting Married. A Scoping Paper’, was undertaken by the Law Commission and published in December 2015. We are delighted that Professor Probert is to talk on current issues in marriage law and to provide some insight into the legal position.

Professor Probert is a renowned legal historian who specialises in in the history of marriage in England and Wales.  She currently holds a chair at Warwick University.  

Mandie Lavin

‘Regulation of Celebrants’

A qualified barrister, Mandie was previously CEO of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives with significant experience of working in trade associations having also run the Bar Standards Board and acted as Director of Regulation at the General Optical Council. Mandie has an invaluable insight into the introduction of regulation and has been working closely with Scottish Government ministers over the future of the profession, including the introduction of regulation. Regulation for celebrants is coming and Mandie will share what celebrants can expect in the next few years.   

Revd Dr Jeremy Brooks, Church of England

‘Celebrants and the Church – ways to work together’

Jeremy will be discussing how celebrants and the clergy can work together in a variety of different ways. Jeremy gained his doctorate at Kings College London on the funeral ministry of the Church of England.  He is a published author on the theology of funerals and is Team Rector of the Beaconsfield Team Ministry. Jeremy is keenly interested in baptisms, weddings and funerals.

‘Is Celebrancy Theatre?’

As a professional actor Steven will discuss and debate whether celebrancy is all about theatre - or not?

Steven is a hugely versatile British character actor known on both stage and screen. He is a popular face on television, having appeared in numerous soaps, television dramas and commercials. He played PC Geoff Younger for over 100 episodes of ‘Heartbeat’. Steven has numerous stage credits to his name, in genres ranging from Shakespeare, to new writing, to traditional pantomime.
