Who is the course for?
This course is designed for registration staff who will be registering marriages for the first time,
or who have registered before, but seek to improve their knowledge, skill and understanding of this area of registration.
What we expect you to gain:
At the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Describe the correct registration process for the majority of marriage registration situations.
- Confidently deal with the marriage registration process, including paperwork and dealing with couples.
- Recognise when additional information, or assistance is required to ensure the marriage registration is legally correct.
This course is designed so that delegates with no previous marriage registration experience would be able to take registrations after a few days of local supervision and familiarisation.
Delegates will be trained in manual registrations and they will require local experience in RSS for indexing purposes.
Course content includes:
- Legal preliminaries
- Types of authority for a marriage
- Places of marriage
- Pre-marriage questioning and checks
- Registering the marriage in a civil ceremony
