Who is the course for?
This course is designed for Local Authorities staff keen to ensure their staff are aware of issues surrounding lesbian and gay issues and provide appropriate customer service with sensitivity and understanding.

- Understanding Lesbian and Gay relationships and society’s attitude to them
- Practical exercises around own attitudes and approaches to Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual and
- Transgender individuals and couples
- General understanding of equality issues

Course details:
Duration: One (1) day
Location: Courses will be held to meet the requirements of Local Authorities, and are normally held at Council premises. The hosting authority provides lunch, and refreshments.
Time: 9.45am to 4.30pm
Cost: £79 + vat per delegate
Due to the interactive nature of the course, the attendence
requirement is min. 8–12 max. Where there are considerably
less delegates from one area, it is recommended that Authorities
may wish to work jointly to provide a course.
Tutors:
The course is tutored by Willis James
Willis is an African Caribbean gay man who has worked psychotherapeutically with Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual young people and adults for many years in relation to issues of ‘coming-out’ and ‘sexual identity’.
Willis is highly qualified in his specialist area and his qualifications include: Dip. Coun. MA. MBACP Accred. MUKAHPP He qualified in Humanistic Integrative Counselling in 1996. His career includes a background of working with young people and adults who experience learning difficulties, mental health and substance misuse difficulties. He has worked across a range of agencies within Social Health and Care, in both the statutory and voluntary sector, as care worker, manager and commissioner of services.
Willis’ areas of interest include working with sexual minority groups, sexual abuse and identity issues. More recently he has begun work within the National Health Service with children and young people and their families who are affected by life limiting and life threatening illness.
Willis brings his personal and professional skills to the Gay Awareness course that he tutors and succeeds in creating a highly secure atmosphere where delegates can explore freely gay awareness issues.
