Who is the course for?
This course is designed for registration staff who will be registering births for the first time,
or who have registered before, but seek to improve their knowledge, skill and understanding
of this area of registration.
What we expect you to gain:
At the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Describe the correct registration process for the majority of birth registration situations.
- Employ relevant questioning skills to take a birth registration.
- Recognise and complete relevant forms for the variety of birth registration situations.
This course is designed so that delegates with no previous birth registration experience would be able to take registrations after a few days of local supervision and familiarisation with RON.
Delegates will usually be trained in manual registrations, unless local training versions of RON are available.

- Preliminaries to registration
- The Draft and Register Entries
- Statutory Declarations
- Corrections
- Statistical information
- Stillbirths
- Re-registrations
- Declarations
Course details:
Duration: 3–4 days non-residential
Depending on background and experience
Location: This course is held to meet the requirements of Local Authorities,
and is often held at a Local Authority venue. Hosting authority to provide refreshments and lunch
